everything

this is everything
from the words i’ve been trying to say
to the ones that won’t stick together
blown away like a feather
trying to survive the stormy weather
this is for all the good for you’s
and the other compliments no one will choose
so cut out the formalities and niceties
leave the cliches at the door and march right in
let’s begin
because when the sunglasses go down
something else goes down too
it will not make a sound for you
the rear-view mirror keeps it together
don’t worry about the cheap leather
all that reflects is a glimmer of light
beaming out at the skies like we’re in mid-flight
staring through the blinds at a blurry night
when every three it comes back to me
with all four closing in for more
just waiting to drop the five and feel alive
for the song that keeps repeating
it’s beating and beating the body keeps on heating
until the chorus cries out inside you
words on a platter they look to resolve you
put it on repeat a hundred times to absolve you
shall i continue
turn it all over and start fresh
for a few days look at us all mesh
like a piece of fruit in a truck
surviving the bump with a bit of luck
wouldn’t it be nice if a list would suffice
everyone is coming up with one or two
all i find is a page of what used to be new
it says that everything expires
even if you keep changing the tires
they will still end up flat
you know there has been enough of that
riding around giving everyone a paper
headlines across the top shall soon taper
so let’s not pretend anymore
to laugh on cue and appease a few
who grab your hand to pat their back
then let it go like a swing in the park
higher and higher
until the momentum gains control
leaving me less than whole in the bottom of a bowl
because when the sunglasses come off
the rear-view mirror shatters
that is when i’ll see what really matters.

Last 3 lines are the best ending. Because “that’s when I’ll see what really matters” Did you literally rap this? That’s how I heard it as I read it. I love this.
