“To shoot an arrow, you gotta pull it backwards.”
Welcome to The Captain’s Speech. My name is Paul. I’ll be the voice in your head as you read the words I write! Let’s be friends.
This blog was born on June 23, 2013 as a sports blog and then transitioned into an “anything that comes to mind” blog.
I was the Captain of my intramural team in University and gave pre-game speeches before our games. They rarely worked, but were fun to do. Hence the title of this blog.
My goal is to make every post better than the last one. Failing that, hopefully no one notices and doesn’t call me out on it!
This blog is about me as much as it is about you, so my other goal is to make you laugh, think, cry, feel, or crave pizza. If I can do any one of those, then this will have been worth it.
There is no theme or schedule. I write about what’s on my mind, whenever I feel the need to let it out.
Life, Humour, Fiction, Poetry, Food, Music, TV, and Sports are some of the things I write about.
All (most) of my posts are written in the middle of the night.
I am Canadian, so if you find an extra “u” in some of my words, or references to syrup, igloos, moose, beavers, or “eh”, that’s why.
I start sentences with “and” a lot.
And I try to make every post sound as if I’m talking, rather than you are reading. If that makes sense.
Every word I write tells you a little bit more about me each time.
I enjoy making people laugh.
I love pizza. Ask my readers.
My blog has been featured three times on Freshly Pressed:
September 6, 2013: I Miss School, Already
March 28, 2014: Watching The Leafs Isn’t Fun Anymore
May 18, 2015: Growing Up Millennial
…and three times on Discover:
January 16, 2017: Digital Diet
July 17, 2017: Reflecting on Four Years of Blogging
November 8, 2017: Roy Halladay
Thank you for getting through this awful About page, which I’ve edited about 78 times. I appreciate it!
Please feel free to leave a comment below – whether to say hi, tell me you love pizza as much as I do, or anything in between.
