Scoring

  • There was a method to the madness; a scoring system was in place. Under each question below, I will tell you what I was looking for, in order for you to receive points.

  • In some of the first 10 questions, there were Hidden Bonus Points (HBP) that you could’ve unlocked with your answer.

  • IF THERE IS A TIE AT THE END, THE TIEBREAKER WILL BE HIDDEN BONUS POINTS.

The First 10

1. In the movie, Space Jam, Daffy Duck sneaks into Michael Jordan’s house to pick up his lucky basketball shorts. What animated character would you trust with your personal belongings and why?

We were starting out nice and easy with a fun question to set the tone. That’s all.

Ben, how could you not say Timon? This question was made for you.

1 Point: Answering the question

2. What is the chorus of your favourite song?

All I was looking for was the full chorus of your favourite song. I did not want to know what the song was, so I could try and guess it from the lyrics.

1 Point: Share the full chorus (0.5 if only some)
1 Hidden Bonus Point: Didn’t tell me the song; allowed me to guess
1 Hidden Bonus Point: If I correctly guessed the song; only eligible if other HBP is fulfilled

4. The singer, Meat Loaf, said he would do anything for love, but he won’t do that. In general, what are three things you won’t do?

I figured some of you might have your antennas up for Hidden Bonus Points, so the “three things” was a red herring.

1 Point: Answering the question

Ben: 1
Catherine: 1
Sabrina: 1
Ela: 0
Aaron: 1
Rebbit7: 1
Jenna: 1
T: 1
Krista: 1
Sara: 1
Sarah: 1

5. What is the worst thing about pockets?

My initial question was going to be, “What is the best thing about pockets?” but I stopped myself. That’s too easy. Let’s flip it. All great things have at least one flaw, right?

Lots of “lint” responses to this one.

Sabrina didn’t answer the question. Instead, she said, “Only a man would ask this question.”

1 Point: Answering the question
1 HBP: If I nodded along to any reasoning you provided

Ben: 2

6. Should I be concerned about your most recent Google Search?

Big money question here. Time to shake up the leaderboard.

Was definitely alarmed by Jenna’s latest search: “how to use cotton swabs ear”.

Sarah had cleared her cache. I had not anticipated that.

1 Point: If you indicate yes or no
1 HBP: You told me what your last search was
1 HBP: After learning of your search, I agreed with your initial yes/no assessment

Ben: 3
Catherine:

T: 3
Krista: 1
Sara: 3

7. If there was an eighth day of the week, what would it be called, and where would you place it amongst the other seven?

Shoutout to Ben and Sabrina for creating the same day – Starday – and placing it between Saturday and Sunday.

Sara had the same placement for her day, which she called, Bonusday. And speaking of bonuses….

1 Point: Creating a new day
1 HBP: If the day created a 3-day weekend

Ben: 2

9. You can have dinner with any three people in the world, but you must dine at a fast-food restaurant. Who are you bringing and what does each person (including yourself) order off the menu?

Okay, so I’m a fool and forgot to ask what restaurant you’d be going to.

I wanted to know three names and what each person was ordering. The more specific you were, the better.

I liked how some of you knew to order the Vegan option for your new celebrity friends.

1 Point: Naming the people and the food
1 HBP: Good level of detail

Ben: 2
Catherine:
2

Krista: 2
Sara: 2
Sarah: 2

10. Think of a word (in English) and create a new, alternate spelling for it. What is the new word you have created?

I don’t think some of you understood the question.

All I wanted was a one word answer.

For example: Wottur

That is a new, alternate spelling for the word, Water.

1 Point: Creating a new word, based on another word
1 HBP: If I could figure out what the original word was

Ben: 1
Catherine:
0
Sabrina: 2
Ela: 2
Aaron: 2
Rebbit7: 0
Jenna: 0.5

1. On a sheet of paper, draw your happy place. Do not include words or numbers. You have 60 seconds to do this. Share the picture in your blog post.

Basically, we were playing pictionary. That is why I didn’t want to know what it was. Once I saw the picture, I made a guess, and then asked you to explain your drawing to see if I got it right.

I genuinely liked all of your drawings.

We have a tie, however, as I said before…the tiebreaker is Hidden Bonus Points unlocked in the first 10 questions.

Therefore…

THE WINNER AND NEWWWW CAPTAIN’S QUIZ CHAMPION IS T!!!

If T cannot fulfill her duties as Captain’s Quiz Champion, Sara will take over.

I don’t know what the duties are, but I feel like I was obligated to say that.

Prize

To be honest, your prize is bragging rights. You also get to walk into the next Captain’s Quiz as defending champion.

I had another prize in mind, but hadn’t fully developed the idea in my head and didn’t know if it would be good. In the future, there may be a prize other than bragging rights. We’ll see.

Thank You!

Thank you to everyone who participated, I hope you had fun and come back to do this again in the future!

If you didn’t participate this time, the door is always open for you down the road.

Hopefully, this post gave you a better idea of how I’m awarding points. As you saw, some questions may require more information than others; I think the fun part is that you never know which questions those are.

That being said, I’m sure I’ll evolve my point scoring system for each quiz, just to keep you guessing.

I’ll stop talking now.

Congratulations, T! You are the champion!
