Mystery Blogger Award x2

Greetings, earthlings!

I’ve been nominated for two more Mystery Blogger Awards, which means I am two steps closer to having an award named after me. I believe that’s how it works.

Thank you Becky and Cody for the nomination! Make sure you click on their names and check out their blogs!

Let’s get down to business.

Rules:

  • Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Tell your readers 3 things about yourself
  • Nominate 10-20 bloggers you feel deserve the award
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you
  • Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice with one weird or funny one
  • Notify your nominees by commenting on their blog

I’m doubling up, so here are 6 things about me:

  1. The first CD I ever owned was a Jazz CD.
  2. My favourite chip flavour is Plain Lay’s, though Ruffles All Dressed have been surging up the power rankings lately.
  3. I once bought 15 pizzas (most of which were customized with 3 toppings) from Papa John’s with excess meal plan money from school, for a Super Bowl party in 2011.
  4. Mint chocolate is my favourite.
  5. I like orange juice with the pulp, but it gives me a sore throat.
  6. I don’t remember most of the details from books I’ve read.

Becky’s Questions

1. When did something start out badly for you but in the end, it was great?
There was an intramural co-ed softball game in university where the other team was bad but they were beating us, so I called a team huddle halfway through the game and said, among other things, “We can beat these guys, their first baseman is smoking a cigarette” and then we rallied and won the game. Still waiting for it to be made into a movie.

I couldn’t think of a more serious answer, sorry.

2. What movie can you watch over and over without ever getting tired of?
Mrs. Doubtfire, Home Alone 1 & 2, Space Jam, Angels in the Outfield. My movie tastes never transitioned into the 2000s.

3. What “old person” things do you do?
Ha, everything. My knees crack when I stand up – I’m a hoot in quiet waiting rooms. I’d share more but it’s far too embarrassing.

4. If someone narrated your life, who would you want to be the narrator?
Jerry Seinfeld. If he’s not available, then Daffy Duck.

5. What artist or band do you always recommend when someone asks for a music recommendation?
I normally try to cater to what I think (or know) they’ll like. It’s never really bands I suggest to people, but individual songs. That being said, if I was just suggesting bands then it would be The Gaslight Anthem and 30 Seconds To Mars (mainly their “This is War” album).

Cody’s Questions

1. Other than the default apps on your phone (phone, messages, email, maps, calendar etc.) what is the one app you cannot live without?
This may sound weird, but I only have 3 apps outside of the default ones. I have Twitter, Instagram, and WordPress. I could probably live without WordPress since I’ve never written a blog post with the app (I’ve been meaning to try it at least once). Twitter – I could always check it on a computer. So I guess my answer is Instagram, since you can’t upload photos from a computer, nor talk to people in a chat. Wow, what a millennial I am.

2. What has been your favorite vacation you have been on?
I don’t know if I’ve ever been on vacation, but there have been trips. My favourite one was to Detroit for New Year’s in 2014 for the Winter Classic outdoors between the Leafs and Red Wings.

3. If you could go back and watch any TV series for the first time, what would it be?
Boy Meets World.

4. If you could make one food item or dish calorie free, what would it be?
PIZZA. Just hook it up to my veins at that point.

5. If you had a water fountain in your house and could make it dispense any liquid you want what would it be? Here’s the catch, you have to drink at least 2 quarts of it per day.
How much is a quart? Sorry, just doing some Canadian conversions via Google. Alright, 2 litres. The boring answer would be water, since I don’t know if I’d drink that much of anything else every day. That being said, I’m going to go with wonton soup broth.

My Nominations:

For this one, I’m trying to nominate bloggers I haven’t nominated lately, or ever. The link will lead you to one of their latest posts. Do check them out! Some are relatively new to WordPress.

Again, thank you to Becky and Cody for the nomination! No pressure for any of my nominees to do this, though it could be fun.

hehe, every time someone says or types “let’s get down to business” in my head I continue “to defeat the Huns!” you missed a golden opportunity there, Paul! And those are great movies – never apologize for them!

  4. Becky Turner says:

As always, your answers make me laugh. Just for fun, I’m going to answer your questions below:

    1. What is your favourite topic to write about and why?

BASEBALL because I like to yell about sports.

    2. Which TV show would you like to be in and what would your character be?

I love Law & Order: SVU and NCIS, so I think I’d want to be in either one of those. As for my characters, I would be Olivia Benson in SVU because she kicks butt, and I would be Ellie Bishop in NCIS because she’s wicked smart and used to work for the NSA.

    3. When you were a kid, what was your favourite snack to bring to school?

Hmmm, it’s sad that I can’t remember what I used to bring to school for a snack. I know my mom packed good snacks, but can’t name one off the top of my head. I do remember bringing snacks in high school and eating Cheerrios during my 5th period physics class. Don’t ask why.

    4. What’s an irrational fear you have?

Mascots. I hate things in costumes.

    5. Go on your phone. Click on your text messages. Scroll to the chat at the bottom of your list. Why haven’t you talked to that person lately? For bonus points, what was the last message that was sent in that chat?

The last person in my text messages is one of my friends from college who I haven’t talked to since October 2016. He played on the football team and was friends with my ex and part of our friend group. I fell out of touch with most of the people I went to college with, and I guess not on purpose. Everyone ends up doing their own thing and you get busy, you know? The last message sent was him saying “No problem!” since I asked him a question.

    • Paul says:

I don’t know why, but Cheerios sounds like the perfect “I don’t know what any of this means, let me nibble on something” snack for physics.

Yeah staying in touch with people after graduating is hard. I asked that question because I will ago I went through my old chats and decided to delete the ones that I haven’t talked to in over a year. Felt weird but it freed up some storage so it’s all for a good cause lol

      Thanks for answering the questions!

      • Becky Turner says:

That’s EXACTLY what I did in physics. I’m surprised I finished with a B in that class because it sucked.

If I remember, I’ll go through my texts and delete them too, but I guess I don’t want to go down memory lane anytime soon. But yeah, it does free up a lot of space. I’m a text message hoarder.

I took physics in Grade 11 but my school was in semesters and I had it in 2nd semester…but all of 1st semester I saw friends complain and struggle with it and it scared me off so I switched out of it before I ever set foot in the class. Your Cheerio story further confirm I made the right choice!

  7. Squid says:

Your questions are way too good to not answer…
    1. What is your favourite topic to write about and why?
    – I thought it would be something I had actually written about on my blog, but I don’t think I ever actually have: Politics, Economics, and Human Nature/Psychology. I really really like thinking about those things and debating them in my head, but I never have the courage to post them online as “This is what I think!” seems too alienating. Now, when people post about those topics, I’m a happy writer in the comments! But not before that, haha.
    2. Which TV show would you like to be in and what would your character be?
    – ahhhhhhh I would be in Leverage as like a photographer for the team? Idk. That or The Librarians with a similar role.
    3. When you were a kid, what was your favourite snack to bring to school?
    – Ummmm never went to school a day in my life, except when I visited my aunt’s kindergarten and I had pizza. I think I’ll stick with that… I have this feeling that you’ll approve.
    4. What’s an irrational fear you have?
    – Lol that a rabid animal with stalk and attack me when I take the trash out at night. I hate hate hate nighttime without a flashlight and a clear line of sight in all directions, lol
5a. Go on your phone. Click on your text messages. Scroll to the chat at the bottom of your list. Why haven’t you talked to that person lately?
    – My uncle Rik, a chess grandmaster and like the coolest guy with a history doctorate ever is at the bottom. I haven’t talked to him in a while because he lives in Miami and my dad and my aunt coordinate our trips down there. Also, we had texted to analyze one of my chess games, and we haven’t had time to do that in a loooooong time.
5b. For bonus points, what was the last message that was sent in that chat?
    – It was me on March 31, 2016, “Hey, our library is having a chess tournament for their chess club and any other people who want to join on April 9th if you are able to and/or want to come!”
    Seriously, great questions! 😁👍

    • Paul says:

Haha wait so your favourite topic to write about is one you don’t really write about? I love it lol

Why have I never heard of Leverage or The Librarians??

Lol I knew if you answered these questions I’d get a home schooler’s view on snacks. I approve of the pizza. If/when you go to college, is it going to be strange being in a school setting? Sorry if that was a weird question.

Haha a rabid animal in the dark! Man, now you’ve got me thinking twice about going outside at night.

      Thanks for doing this, Squid!

      • Squid says:

Ooooohh Leverage is a bunch of criminals banding together to use their skills to help people who can’t help themselves. They become a family basically, and their dynamic is pretty awesome. The director was Dean Devlin, and he just got done making the 4th season of a show called The Librarians. They are the protectors of magic and knowledge in the world, and they have to deal with evil villains from Shakespeare and stuff. It’s kinda cheesy, but the family dynamic is there again and it’s beautiful to see. Me and my family love both shows, haha.

That’s not a weird question at all! College is/will be different, but it actually seems rather similar to camp, so I probably won’t be too out of place or weirded out, lol. I visited one recently and got to sit in on a few classes. There, I realized that I could take notes and still comprehend what the professor was saying, so I think I’ll probably be good… 🙂 I’ve wanted to write a post on this for a while now, haha, so maybe I’ll answer it better there.

Cool! Well you sound more at ease and confident than I would be haha. I don’t know if I could step into a college class for the first time having never been in a classroom before, but I’m sure you’ll do great!

    My Questions!!!
    1. What is your favourite topic to write about and why?
My favorite topic is writing about things to do in different cities. When ever I travel somewhere new, I dont know what to do so lists like that help. So, I hope lists like that help other people too. I also, like it write about personal things like why I don’t think I am Traveler, when my friends think I am. I want to write more personal things in the future for my blog.

    2. Which TV show would you like to be in and what would your character be?
Jane the Virgin, play her best friend.

    3. When you were a kid, what was your favourite snack to bring to school?
Kiwi, it was my favorite fruit at the time. I still love Kiwi but it doesn’t beat mango.

    4. What’s an irrational fear you have?
Cockroaches, that they will attack me. I’m not a fan of roaches.

    5. Go on your phone. Click on your text messages. Scroll to the chat at the bottom of your list. Why haven’t you talked to that person lately? For bonus points, what was the last message that was sent in that chat?
It was a group chat between 4 friends. Two of them live in Cali and the other two live in Texas like me but not the same city. I live in Austin, they live in San Antonio. The last message send in the Texas was YAAASSS with a Christmas bitmogi. It was Christmas 2016.

Kiwi!? I would’ve never expected that as an answer. Very cool. Much better than those messy kids who got pudding all over their face every day lol

  13. Chichi says:

    I shall answer because… Well… I don’t know.
It seems fun and I missed the opportunity when I got one (sigh).

    1. I love writing about sport. It just flows. I don’t know all sports but… it’s one of the easiest things for me to talk about. Like, ever.
    2. Does Lucha Underground count as a TV show? I mean, it’s a wrestling show but… It’s a wrestling TV show. 😀
    3. I used to love these other chips. They were called ‘Juniors’, I think. Can’t really remember because I haven’t seen them in a while.
    4. Well, I fear everything. But… most are rational so… the craziest one probably has to be mazes. I fear getting lost so… Nope. Not for me!
    5. Damn. Okay, it just landed on someone that I haven’t spoken to in weeks. The reason as to why we haven’t spoken is because he posted a status update about him not being okay, so I checked on him. I was like, “Are you okay?” He said, “Nah” So I say, “Okay, wanna talk about it?” Then he says, “Nope.” So… I decided to not push any further. That hurt but… These things happen, right?

    Thanks, Paul!

What do you think of Lucha Underground? I’ve seen a few episodes/matches here and there but nothing pulled me in. Do they actually have good storylines that end up somewhere? I did like the building they film in, mainly because of the staircase.

Haha mazes could be a nightmare! I’ve never been in a real one thankfully.

JUST KIDDING. lol I knew that but I did not know you loved some of my fave movies like angels in the outfield!!!! Omg But wait WHAT ABOUT
    ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
    THE SANDLOT
    THE LITTLE GIANTS
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN ( there’s no crying in baseball!!)
Or THE GOONIES or PROBLEM CHILD or BILLY MADISSON or FIELD OF DREAMS ok I’ll stop lol

    • Paul says:

YOU like Angels in the Outfield???? WHAT IS LIFE?? I also loved Rookie of the Year. Also liked A League of their Own! And Field of Dreams was alright.

Now to let you down: I’ve never watched The Sandlot is its entirety, or at all. Can’t remember. I don’t know what The Little Giants. Never seen The Goonies, though I’ve been told/yelled at a million times “You haven’t seen The Goonies? WATCH THE GOONIES!” Haven’t seen Billy Madison.

      We still cool though right?

      Liked by 1 person

      • Ely says:

We COOL but you have to GOT to watch the goonies lol and the sandlot is just a classic. The little giants was about a football team of kids that “could” against the bigger badder richer team of kids lol it’s FUNNY. And I’m just a huge fan of Adam Sandler so I’ve watched all his movies like 10
        Million times. And yes-
        Angels in the outfield could
Easily be my favorite with a league of their own. Remember my sport of CHOICE aside from ice skating and cheerleading is Baseball!

        Liked by 1 person

      • Paul says:

I looked up the little giants and it looks right up my alley! Any sports movie with kids that have hair that looks like they just woke up, is always a great movie!
Wait, so this means you’ve seen Happy Gilmore! I love that movie!
Oh and have you ever seen Angels in the Endzone?

        Liked by 1 person

      • Ely says:

HAPPY GILMOREEEEE YESSS I think I memorize every line that movie lol “the price is wronnnnggg BITCH”
“Don’t you wanna go to your Hooommeee???”
I can do the whole movie I swear lol 😂 I’ve never seen angels in the endZone! I’ll look that up!
