Livin’ On A Hair

Welcome back to the musical portion of this blog. What I’ve done today is take lyrics to “Livin’ On A Prayer” and turn them into something different, which casts a whole new meaning on the song.

Don’t worry, I’ve done this before. You can read “Pizza Sickness” to make sure of it. I’m a trained professional.

I’m interested in what you think the song means now. I’ll share my thoughts afterwards so I don’t sway you one way or another.

So here it is. The world premiere of Livin’ On A Hair.

Once upon a lime
Not too long ago

Tommy used to work on the ducks
Daffy’s been on hikes
He lost another buck, it’s tough, so tough
Donald works the diner all day
Quacking at the man, he brings home his hay
For love, for love

He says we’ve got to hold on to what we bought
It doesn’t make a difference
If we bake it or not
We’ve got some frosting, and that’s a lot
For love – we’ll sleep on a cot

Whooah, we’re half way where
Oh-oh, livin’ on a hair
Take my sand, we’ll rake it I swear
Oh-oh, livin’ on a hair

Daffy’s got his six chins under lock
Now he’s holding in
What won’t let him walk
To the trough, to the trough
Donald keeps running away
When he sniffs in the night
Daffy whispers, “Maybe it’s okay, I don’t spray.”

He says we’ve got to hold on to what we bought
It doesn’t make a difference
If we bake it or not
We’ve got some frosting, and that’s a lot
For love – we’ll sleep on a cot

Whooah, we’re half way where
Oh-oh, livin’ on a hair
Take my sand, we’ll rake it I swear
Oh-oh, livin’ on a hair

Ooh we’ve got to hold on, bake it or bought
You live for the night when the day is too hot

Ooh we’re halfway where
Ooh livin’ on a hair
Take my sand and we’ll rake it, I swear
Ooh livin’ on a hair
Ooh we’re halfway where
Ooh livin’ on a hair
Take my sand and we’ll rake it, I swear
Ooh livin’ on a hair
Ooh we’re halfway where
Ooh livin’ on a hair

Alright, let’s get to it. This song is clearly about Donald Duck and Daffy Duck living together as roommates and Daffy has immense gas, which is keeping Donald up at night. They had a cake with frosting and that lead to Daffy’s stomach problems.

They are sleeping on cots because neither of them wear pants and if there’s an accident, well, goodbye bedsheets. Also, they are broke and livin’ on a hair. So, that too.

By the way, I didn’t plan this. The words just came to me and the meaning found itself. I did not go looking for this meaning.

Anyways, that’s it. I’m gonna go sit in a corner and think about what I’ve just done.

I love those ducks – I remember the piano ‘dual’ in ‘Who framed Roger Rabbit?’ which is (to the best of my knowledge) the only time they’ve ever been on screen together – it was pure cartoon heaven. I’m not sure they’d be great flatmates though, even without the unfortunate digestive and financial problems they seem to be experiencing.

Yes, you think about what you’ve done here. No mention of Luey, Huey or Duey, or Daisy, or any other ducks.

What made you think of this in the first place? It’s awesome. I love Bon Disney songs (or something like that).
