Sometimes you cannot put a feeling into words
try as you may
a tear may come first
and that is why
the hardest poems to write
are written without the guide of your finger
they are the poems you feel inside of you
before your mind can catch up
they are the poems you have seen before
but put a cloak over
as to not ruin the image
and though your body is covered in goosebumps
your touch cannot comfort them
they are the poems where your words are lost to the sky
no thesaurus can know what you know
it cannot see what you see
it will never feel how you feel
in those moments
those tiny little moments
where the world stands still
and you feel like you are somewhere else
while being someone else
it feels like forever
but I promise you
it is only a second that never sees another
and in that small window
you are living within the poem
where a pen first met its paper
long before you ever did
and that is a tough pill to swallow
knowing the ghost you fear
wears a mask of its own
because it is just as afraid of you
as you are of it
which is why these unwritten poems
will never quit
they are yours
they are mine
they are everything that was good and fine.

Lovely poem. I am really struck by many of the images you have created here, especially the ones about putting a cloak over poems one has seen, so as not to spoil the image, and also the small window through which one can live inside a poem. Very telling. Thank you for sharing this poem with us, Paul! 🙂

Lol you managed to pick out the lines that I wrote first and had to lead the rest of the poem into

If this were the price is right you’d win a car…but it’s a blog.
I think you’ve done this before where you picked out lines I wrote that I had liked or something

I’ve been away from this site for some time, and I’m happy that this was one of the first reads I came across since logging back on and scrolling. Very relatable, love it!
