Answers: 2 Truths, 1 Lie

So, it turns out I’m an incredible liar. First things first, though. If you want to take a stab at uncovering my lies in the midst of truths, stop reading this post right now and click here. Then come back and see if you were right!

The format for this post will be as follows:
1. I’m going to list everyone who responded to the 2 Truths, 1 Lie post and post their predictions.

2. I’ll reveal the lies.

3. I’ll provide a leaderboard of the top five.

4. I’m going to address a couple of people individually with some sarcastic disbelief and anger. Stay tuned!

Thanks to everyone who participated. I know it was challenging. Here are the participants and their answers.

Miriam: B C C B A
wordiness24: C A A B A
Isabella Simons: C A C C B
celiamae12: B A B B A
Jess: B A C B A
christophermcgeownwriting: A B A C C
Little Rants: P A R T Y P O O P E R (Only prediction was that I was a child model)
ForTheLoveOfSass: C A B B B
girlbeneaththekeys: B C B B B
aqilaqamar: C C B B A
James: A B B B A
rebbit7: C C C C A
peckapalooza: C A C B A
Genealogy Jen: B A B B A

Minus Little Rants, there are 13 participants.

And now, the answers. The false statements are in bold. I also included how many people out of 13 got it right. Explanations will follow.

ONE
a) I had a pet hamster when I was a kid.
b) I like orange juice with the pulp.
c) Orange juice makes my throat hurt.

Correct: 2/13

This one really threw people for a loop. A few of you were convinced the answer had to be B or C. You fell right into my trap! Yes, I like orange juice with the pulp. And yes, it makes my throat hurt which means I don’t drink it that often. I’ve never had a pet.

TWO
a) The first CD I ever owned was a jazz CD.
b) I won my Grade 6 class spelling bee.
c) I’ve never been on an airplane.

Correct: 2/13

I came in second place in the spelling bee. The winner asked me if I would lose on purpose so they could get the prize, which was a gift card to a bookstore. I said no. I lost anyway.

As for the jazz CD: When I was a kid, I always went into this store where you could select which music played throughout the store. I always put on the same upbeat jazz song, until finally my parents bought me the CD so I could listen to that one song. It was this one. I’ve never listened to any other song on the CD.

THREE
a) Paul is actually my middle name.
b) I really like the apple pies from McDonald’s.
c) I was a child model for a restaurant brochure.

Correct: 2/13

Eleven of you thought Paul was actually my middle name? Oh man. It’s my first name. My middle name is Edward.

As for the child model thing, I was at a restaurant and photographers were there taking photos. They asked me to be in one with my mom. With our backs to the camera, the photo was taken and we were put in a brochure. I call myself a child model as a result.

Correct: Little Rants

FOUR
a) When I was a kid (like, really young), I thought toilets were also used as bathtubs for babies.
b) I don’t like fruit punch.
c) Was voted “Most likely to be Prime Minister of Canada” in Grade 8.

Correct: 0/13

This was my favourite lie. It’s so ridiculous, it just had to be true, right? Nope. I thought of it in two seconds. That’s how my brain works.

FIVE
a) I’ve never had a nose bleed.
b) I’ve been chased by a three-legged dog.
c) In elementary school, I did a card trick at the school talent show, but it didn’t work.

Correct: 1/13

Ha, I was never even in the school talent show. I also don’t know any card tricks.

Yes, a three-legged dog has chased me. It was my neighbour’s dog. It was traumatizing. Imagine a tripod running after you. And yes, I’ve never had a nose bleed. At least not one that I would consider a real nose bleed. Knock on wood!

Therefore, the correct order was A B A A C.

Leaderboard
1. christophermcgeownwriting: 4/5
2. James: 2/5
3. wordiness24: 1/5
4. Everyone Else: 0/5
5. Little Rants: Child Model

Now, before I congratulate christophermcgeownwriting, I should let you know that me and him have been best friends since Grade 5 (though he claims it was Grade 4). So that’s about 15 years. He had an advantage and still only got 4.

Still, congratulations to him! He’s new to WordPress so you’ll be seeing me promote him in an upcoming post.

Congratulations to James and wordiness24 for rounding out the top three!

As for the rest of you, what happened??

Personal Addresses
There are two people I want to talk to directly now, humour me.

Jess. You started out your comment by saying, “I feeeeeeel like I should nail this…” and I thought to myself, “She better”. You then gave your guesses and rounded out your comment with “I’M GOING TO BE REALLY UPSET IF I’M WRONG ABOUT ALL OF THEM.”

Well, you were wrong about ALL OF THEM. Are you upset? I’m upset! I’ve probably talked to you outside of the WordPress walls more than any other blogger and you still know nothing about me! This hurts. No more jokes about TLC shows for at least a month. I believed in youuuuu.

christophermcgeownwriting, I’m just going to call you Chris. If there were anyone I would expect to get 5/5, it would’ve been you. YOU DIDN’T. Fifteen years of friendship down the drain! Hundreds of bonding sessions at Pizza Hut lunch buffet down the drain!

Let’s look at the one you got wrong, though. Number 4. You thought that my statement about being voted “most likely to be Prime Minister of Canada” in Grade 8, was false. YOU WERE AT THE SAME SCHOOL AS ME. YOU HAVE THE YEARBOOK.

Worst of all, you were also voted most likely to be Prime Minister. This is a common trait we both share. We’ve even discussed it in person! And you still got it wrong. I’m stunned and saddened.

Thanks again to everyone who played! This was a lot of fun for me. No hard feelings. Only soft ones that have been crushed.

I’m crying. Literally, teary eyed. I THOUGHT I HAD THIS. Welllllllll, it will be your turn to guess very soon. Clearly most of our conversations revolve around Extreme Couponers and lack of sleep. This saddens me. I’ll take the punishment. I DESERVE IT.

So… I played even though it was after the fact. I got them all wrong… EVERY. SINGLE. LAST. ONE. But (because there is always a but), I did believe the Prime Minister thing was true so I believe that in a roundabout way that means that I totally beat Chris. Just sayin. #boom

I didn’t see this in time as I’m following your blog via bookmarks these days rather than the reader (was getting overwhelmed by that as I was following too many people on it – eye problems that I posted about some time ago) but it made me smile. I used to do posts like this on a different blog I had a few years ago. But in mine I banned anyone who knew me off-blog, from answering! The remaining ones, well…. pretty like what you had here!

I’m not gonna feel bad about getting all of them wrong. Because I was not alone. It feels better to fail at something when you know you’re in the majority, I think.

  13. I am super competitive. 0? Really? Not even 1 correct? Ouch. It reminds me that I’m clearly not good at spotting liars. Cue Avicci liar liar to accompany my reflections on the numerous liars I dated in my early 20’s… so many…
