Roadblock

Staring deep into the heart of the cold and foggy night
I recognize the sandman will soon be here
To relieve my eyes of such a lovely sight
And all they may fear

My vision fades to black as I pretend to sleep
Next to an anxious clock that has decided to swing
Tonight is not the night for counting sheep
Every toss and turn leads to just one more thing

And they wonder, can we go there?
Can we go there, too?
I want to go there
I just can’t go there right now
But I’m at this roadblock waiting
Waiting for you

Standing out beneath the city light
Cars drive by; my face is a blur
Trying to find faith in what is right
On a search for the almighty cure

And I’m standing here shaking
Beneath this coat I can’t help but shiver
Counting the breaths you’re taking
Leaving me with only a sliver

And they wonder, can we go there?
Can we go there, too?
I want to go there
I’m trying to go there now
But I’m at this roadblock waiting
Waiting for you

Red, yellow, and green try to tangle my mind
Telling me to lose a goodbye to find a hello
I search the premise unsure if I’ll like what I find
But colouring outside the lines is the only way to know

And they wonder, can we go there?
Can we go there, too?
I want to go there
I should be there by now
But I’m at this roadblock waiting
Waiting for you

But I’m at this roadblock waiting
Still waiting for you.

About Paul

This is the part where I'm supposed to write something interesting about myself and you'll read it and think, "That's not that interesting." So let's not do that and just think about pizza instead, on the count of three. One, two, three. Donuts. Now, wasn't that interesting?

Ugh Paul, so lovely. Made me tear up a bit.
The counting sheep also reminded me of my insane insomnia issues and how I should really try to fix that.

  2. Paul, the Sandman just left here totally depressed. He told me that my posts will put him out of business. So that’s probably why he’s late. He read my recent post and overslept.

I think this is the best poem that you’ve written. Made me sad and hopeful at the same time.
