For those of you who don’t know, Christmas tag is a classic reindeer game. A group of reindeer get together and fly through the air trying to catch each other. This is where the phrase, “Run, Run, Rudolph” originated. “Fly, Fly, Rudolph” didn’t satisfy alliteration and “Fly, Fly, Fludolph” was only used when the reindeer had the flu. Now you know.
Reindeer catch the flu by staying out too long in the rain, dear.
So yeah, Christmas tag is basically quidditch for reindeer.
I don’t normally do tags on WordPress. I’ve even stopped passing along those award nominations. However, I’m making an exception today in the name of Christmas.
And because Rebekah, from the aptly named The Rebekah Koontz Site, nominated me to do this and I couldn’t say no to her.
Go check out her blog! I promise you that she’s funny! She’s also posting a new vlog on her blog every day for the month of December, which means she is more dedicated and tired than the rest of us. They are also quite entertaining.
There are ten questions in this Christmas tag for me to answer. Read all of my answers.
1. What is your favourite Christmas film?
Home Alone 1. There’s just something about accidentally leaving a little kid at home for what seems like a year, and watching him behave like an adult as he walks around outside in the middle of winter with his coat not zipped up, that is just so compelling and entertains me every time.
I may just have to blog about Home Alone in another post.
2. Do you open your presents on Christmas eve or Christmas morning?
Gotta be Christmas morning. One year, when I was little, we opened them on Christmas eve. Christmas morning arrived and I felt empty inside. “But, where’s Christmas?” is what came to mind. So, I will never do that again. It was like eating a cake before frosting it. Warm and moist at the time, but then I was left wanting something more.
3. Do you like to stay in your PJs on Christmas day or dress up?
Man, if I could stay in PJs every day for my entire life, sign me up. I don’t think anyone gets dressed in real clothes before going downstairs to open presents, though I could be wrong. In this context, I’m not sure if “dress up” just strictly means changing out of pyjamas, or changing out of pyjamas and trying to look fancy. In any case, my family normally goes to eat lunch at my grandparents house. So yes, I suppose I “dress up”. I’ll call it, “changing out of PJs” though.
4. If you could only buy one person a present this year, who would it be?
Myself. That way, everyone else is equally offended and no one is put on a pedestal.
But if you’re looking for a nice answer, I’d say my mom. Dads always get shafted on questions like these, don’t they?
5. Have you ever built a gingerbread house?
I don’t think I have. But there may have been a time in Grade 1, or even Kindergarten, when they let us test out our construction skills at school. I can’t remember. If I did make one though, someone probably huffed and puffed and blew it over.
6. What do you like to do on your Christmas break?
I love shovelling the driveway right when the snowplow comes by and puts an impenetrable wall of snow at the bottom of the driveway. It just warms my heart. Who needs the gym when you can just shovel snow. Forget “Do you even lift, bro?” It should be, “Do you even lift snow?”
I also like eating, sleeping, sitting, and watching TV during the Christmas break. So, really, nothing I don’t do the rest of the year. I like to be consistent.
7. Any Christmas wishes?
Now hold on. As a kid we’re always told to make a wish and not tell anyone. Blow out birthday candles? Make a wish and don’t tell anyone. Throw money into a fountain at the mall? Make a wish and don’t tell anyone. Christmas is three weeks away? Make a wish and tell everyone!
I don’t know that I have a Christmas wish that wouldn’t sound cheesy or self-fulfilling. (That last sentence may or may not be referring to pizza).
8. Favourite Christmas food?
Cannelloni. Oh man, I’m just picturing it on my plate now. With meat in the middle and stringy cheese on top. Get in my stomach, cannelloni. I love you.
9. Candy cane or gingerbread man?
Candy cane. The red and white ones. The different coloured ones are frauds. I don’t need anything flashy. I’m not a big candy person, but candy canes always have a place in my heart..as unhealthy as that may sound.
10. What is at the top of your Christmas list?
A Hot Wheels race track with one loop two loops. I will be 70-years-old and this will still be at the top of my Christmas list.
You all thought I was going to say pizza, didn’t you?
This is the awkward part of the post where I have to nominate other people to do this where they all get really excited but never actually do it.
That being said, I nominate Jess from The You’re Fine Blog.
If anyone else would like to do it too, feel free.
Happy Hohoholidays!
I love this! Specially the HOHOHOLIDAYS!

Aww shucks. Of course I’ll do it. It will be like reliving those “quizzes” on Myspace or whatever it was that asked you a hundred questions.
Also, I can’t even believe that there is more than one Home Alone movie. How many times are they going to forget their kid?

Haha Myspace was the first thing I thought of when I saw this too. Or those Facebook quizzes that people put too much time into because they “were bored”.
And then Home Alone 2 escalates and they lose him in a different city! Mother of the year.

“You’ll shoot your eye out, Ralphie.” My fave, The Christmas Story. With you on the candy canes, tho, and (ok, maybe canelloni) but really canoli. Sweet tooth!

Mmm I almost mentioned cannoli as well! So delicious.

Can we get the phrase “Do you even lift snow?” trending as soon as possible? I nearly choked on my morning coffee at that one. In addition, I agree with you whole heartedly on the candy cane vs. gingerbread debate. Candy canes are my secret vice that I will consume at any time of year. Gingerbread can suck it. *thumbs up*

I would love nothing more than for that phrase to become as common as all the other stupid sayings in the world!

GREAT reindeer tag jokes. And I loved your answers to the questions, especially the snow plow one. Major annoyance. 😃

Luckily, we haven’t had any snow yet.

We haven’t either! So strange…Where are the snow days that teachers are anxiously awaiting??!!

I’m sure the kids want to know too!

The part about the wall of snow is so true. Especially when you’re coming home after a long day and think you can clear it, but just end up getting stuck. Hahah Canadian problems!

Fortunately we haven’t had any snow yet! Though I probably just jinxed it. Supposed to be 13 degrees today. Crazy.

It’s currently 17 in Niagara! It’s just a matter of time before we hear the dreaded “lake effect snow” warnings. Better enjoy it while we can 🙂

Love Niagara! Used to go to school out there. Always some abnormal weather going on.

Alright I’m just way too curious since I go to school here, so I’ve gotta ask… Brock or Niagara College?

You’re kidding! I go to Brock! Hahah what are the odds of finding a Canadian on here, let alone someone who went to the same school 🙂

No way! I graduated in 2013. Now I’m the curious one…When did you start there/did you ever live in residence/do you know any of my friends?? haha

I started in 2013, so literally 4 months after you would’ve been out of school. I’m from Niagara so I lived at home. Brock’s only a 10 minute drive for me! The nursing program’s pretty rigid with the classes we take so we probably didn’t know the same people. This is so insane!! And also, whoops, this is probably the longest comment thread in the history of the world hahah.

What a cool coincidence! I think I knew someone in the nursing program but they would’ve been in 4th year at the time. Well, I hope your exams went well and the gym wasn’t too intimidating lol
