SOTW #4 – Where The Streets Have No Name

U2 – Where The Streets Have No Name

I think people throw around words like: “best”, “greatest”, and “favourite” too much. For me, if I use one of those words, it better be for something special. It better be for something that is of great significance to me. And although I hate ranking things or making one thing feel more important than another, sometimes it’s necessary. That being said, “Where The Streets Have No Name” is my favourite song, even if it did come out four years before I was born.

Enjoy.

I want to run
I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I want to reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name

I want to feel sunlight on my face
I see the dust cloud disappear
Without a trace
I want to take shelter from the poison rain
Where the streets have no name

Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We’re still building
Then burning down love
Burning down love
And when I go there
I go there with you
It’s all I can do

The city’s aflood
And our love turns to rust
We’re beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust
I’ll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name

Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We’re still building
Then burning down love
Burning down love
And when I go there
I go there with you
It’s all I can do
Our love turns to rust
We’re beaten and blown by the wind
Blown by the wind
Oh, and I see love
See our love turn to rust
We’re beaten and blown by the wind
Blown by the wind
Oh, when I go there
I go there with you
It’s all I can do

About Paul

This is the part where I'm supposed to write something interesting about myself and you'll read it and think, "That's not that interesting." So let's not do that and just think about pizza instead, on the count of three. One, two, three. Donuts. Now, wasn't that interesting?

Great taste, Paul. I consider myself fortunate to have seen U2 live, a dozen years ago in Albany, N.Y. The concert was everything I thought it would be, and more.

That must’ve been great! I’ve never seen them in person, but based on their live performances on YouTube, they look like one of the best bands to see live.

… and now I feel old.

(Okay, not really. It’s not like I was in my teens when this song came out. I was four. But still. When you still tend to think of yourself in your own mind as “just out of college,” any time you’re reminded that, no, actually you graduated over seven years ago, it’s like a mini shock to the system. A little advice from your elders… you will think of yourself as “young” long after people younger than you think of you as “old.”)
